 CHIEF JON D. TRETTER

Chief Jon D. Tretter was born in New London, Connecticut, and is graduated from East Lyme, Connecticut, High School.  He spent time in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Cheyenne, Wyoming, Araxos, Greece, and as a Security Officer stationed at Pease Air Force Base.  Chief Tretter attended the N.H. Police Standards & Training Council and was certified as a full-time officer in 1984.  He was hired by the Town of Newington in 1985 and worked as a full-time police officer until being promoted to Corporal and head of Patrol Services in November 1987. In December 1988 Jon completed the Command Training Program at Babson College held at the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management . With added responsibilities he was promoted to Sergeant in December 1988 and became supervisor of the Patrol Bureau.  In February of 2000, Chief Tretter was promoted to Lieutenant and took on the responsibilities of the Investigation Bureau and Juvenile Division. 

With the vacancy in the position of Chief of Police, Jon participated in the interview process conducted by the Newington Police Commissioners, and was appointed to the vacancy by the Commissioners.  On March 25, 2005, Lieutenant Tretter was sworn in as Chief of Police for the Town of Newington, by retired Chief Bradley B. Loomis. 

Chief Tretter and former Mayor of New York City, Rudy Guiliani, who declined to say if he plans on running for President in 2008.
